The dwarven crafter’s journal is a book in Dwarvish found under the bed of a workshop apartment in Vault 18 of the sealed Underforge Vaults beneath Argentum. Its writer researched constructs in a hidden workshop behind the apartment, where two stone defenders stood guard.1
Description
The book is a journal, diary and inventory log, and for the most part the ordinary record of a fairly basic dwarven crafter. It carries no dates.1 Two entries stand out.1
The first is the only entry on its page:1
Given that the Ruling Master’s damned charters forbid this sort of research, I’ve had to ‘go underground’, as the humans say. Still, there’s no problem a good hammer can’t fix.
The second hints at what the research was:1
Damned things still don’t listen, and the key doesn’t work. Actually, if anything, the device seems to disrupt the internal control array further leading to even poorer tactical decision making. I DEFINITELY shouldn’t put these prototype arrays into the working constructs…but, well, I did. Can’t wait to test them!
Two or three ordinary entries follow the second, and then the journal stops.1
The Writer
The writer lived in a sparse apartment with a small workshop, whose tools were all polished and well kept. A hammer on the tool rack opened a secret door to a much larger workshop, where he carried out secret research into constructs against the Ruling Master’s charters.1 He left blueprints there that looked like designs for the constructs, and notes on the Golem Control Rod with a lot scribbled out: “No, this didn’t work. Try this.”1

Luma found the journal on the Vigil of Remembrance, 1714 PSF, and read the two entries aloud to the party.1 When the stone defenders came to life, she remembered the second entry, pointed the rod at one of them, and told it to stand down in Dwarvish.1
