A Tarnar Turnstone is a magical device that opens a temporary passage through a wall, leaving what amounts to a secret door that is very difficult to detect.1 One was used beneath the festival plaza in Argentum on 24 Coldrise, 1714 PSF, to reach the Everfire Lamp that exploded.2 A Turnstone explodes when it is used up.3

Operation

A Turnstone looks like a timer with a dial.4 Left to wind up a full twelve hours, it works without spending any charges. The more time is cut off the windup, the more charges it burns, and the charges do not come back.4

History

Session 2

High Inquisitor Westra Saelis explained what the device was during the party’s interview, and its presence decided the argument over jurisdiction: because the Turnstone is magical, the case belonged to the Order of the Lantern rather than the Stone Shields.1 Luma had found the passage it opened while mapping the maintenance tunnels, and had said nothing about knowing what made it.1

Session 13

On the wall beside the Fardrimm Gate, on the Vigil of Remembrance, 1714 PSF, Luma found shards of brass scattered in a radiating pattern around a circle of scorch marks: someone had used up a Turnstone there.3 Hazel gathered the shards into Luma’s bag of holding.3 Luma cast locate object for another Turnstone nearby and found none.3

Session 14

Luma used the shards from the Fardrimm Gate in making Beepo on the night of the Vigil of Remembrance, 1714 PSF.4 The next evening the party agreed they would need a Turnstone to pass the gate. The one the Stone Shields had held had been taken by High Inquisitor Westra Saelis.4
