Henry Kemble, called Pa Kemble, farms the largest holding in Crick's Bend with his wife Maurine and their children.1 Temerity was a big help around the farm before she left for Argentum, by his account.1
Biography
Session 5
Henry was out front splitting wood when Temerity came by, and pretended not to know her before giving up the act laughing.1 He said the hunting had gone badly, the deer being skittish that year, but that Dervan gives them and Father Emberthumb first pick of his fish, and that they could always slaughter a pig if it came to it.1 He grumbled that planting too much grain sets the people of Dell off, then apologized for swearing.1
He told her that Eliza Kemble had been running off without telling anyone and coming in after dinner, which was new, and that nobody knew where she went. Eliza had always been mischievous, and to Temerity this seemed a turn that had started since she left.1 Henry said he had always expected Trever Kemble to be the one who would not pull his weight, and that Trever had stepped up instead.1 Temerity offered to talk to Eliza, and he said it was not her job.1
Session 8
Henry carved a honey and cider glazed haunch of pork for the party’s dinner on 28 Coldrise, 1714 PSF. “Hello, hello. Welcome to my home. I’m Henry, Henry Kemble. This is my wife, Maurine, to whom you all owe your undying gratitude for this spread of delicious food.”2 When Hazel offered the awkward toast “Here’s hoping that you will all make do without them”, Henry was the first to raise his glass, and said they would do the best they could, that they missed Temerity, and that they knew she was doing good.2
Session 9
Temerity, watching the farmhouse before sunrise on 29 Coldrise, 1714 PSF, saw Henry come out to chop wood. He did not notice her.3
