Rurik Hulduro

Rurik Hulduro, titled Oldstone Archivist, is a historian in Argentum.¹ He is associated with the Silver Archives and works through them, though Kessa Tumblebrim believed that he technically works for the Synod of the Silver Flame.¹ Kessa called him a fairly famous historian.¹ He is the Synod’s chief historical expert, and writes what counts as official history.² He is the half-brother of Riswynn Deepdraft, the uncle of Amber Deepdraft, and the brother of Tordek.²

Description

Appearance

An old dwarf, gnarled and wrinkled with age, with a deep, gravelly voice. His hair and beard are grey with a silvery look.²

Works

He has written a few books, most of them recent histories of Argentum. Kessa believed one of them is about Dell.¹

One of his histories, A Chronicle of the Silver Vale, found in Wellby Emberthumb’s collection in Crick's Bend, covers the political climate of Argentum and the Silver Vale going back two hundred years, including the lead-up to the Elder Exodus.³ It suggests that those who left in the Exodus did so because they were stubborn and self-centered.¹ The Silver Archives hold a copy.¹

Biography

Session 9

Luma found his name on the history she had been reading, as Oldstone Archivist Hulduro, on the morning of 29 Coldrise, 1714 PSF. She knew the name as that of a historian connected with the Silver Archives, alive when she last heard of him a couple of years before.¹ She took issue with his account of the Exodus, since her grandfather had been one of those who left, and resolved to find him.¹ That evening she asked Kessa about him. Kessa knew his book but not the man, did not know where he lives, and offered to ask people she knew at the Silver Archives whether they could arrange a meeting.¹

Session 11

Among the names chalked on a wall in Vault 18 of the Underforge Vaults is Thoradin Hulduro, and Luma recognized the family name as the writer’s.⁴

Session 16

Amber Deepdraft told the party on 3 Nightdeep, 1714 PSF, that Hulduro calls the Elder Exodus an entirely voluntary act of arrogance. She believes those who left were driven off.² Her uncle Tordek left in the Exodus, blaming Hulduro for what was happening to Argentum.² On 6 Nightdeep Hulduro questioned Luma about her survey at the Silver Archives, with Thaddeus Marwin present.² He asked what each vault had been for, why her report said so little about the residential vaults, what the Dwarvish graffiti said, and whether any of her security could read Dwarvish.² The creatures that made darkness were not Sorrowsworn, he said: “Damn darkmantles. Come up from below sometimes.”² Luma came away calling him mean.²
